How it works

  1. Your spare money fills the cushion first.
  2. Then it goes to debts, in the order you pick, and each paid-off minimum joins it.
  3. Once the debts are gone, everything goes to savings, earning your APY.

Why a cushion first

Without one, the first surprise lands on a card and undoes your progress. A small one keeps the plan on track.

Sprout, drawn in ink

a small cushion keeps the plan going.

Questions

How big should the cushion be?

Big enough for one surprise, often one month of bills or $1,000. Grow it after the debts are gone.

What about the 401K match?

If your employer matches, contributing enough to get the full match usually beats paying extra on debt.

How accurate is this?

It’s an estimate from the numbers you enter. Real statements and rates vary a little.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. No sign-up. It’s in the pinchd app too, where the answer fits into your actual paychecks.
